About

My name is Michele – pronounced mee-KEH-leh – but you can call me Mick. That's probably easier to remember and harder to misspell (or so I hope).

I have always been passionate about how people communicate and interact online, and I taught myself how to make a website when I was only 12.

Driven by an apparently boundless curiosity, I've been learning and growing ever since (getting a degree in Computer Science at some point along the way).

How I can help you

Managing your online presence by yourself can be difficult, time-consuming, and wasteful. As a simplicity web coach, my job is to spare you from that.

I can take care of the complex technical stuff you don't know how (or don't want) to deal with, making your web communication hassle-free and effective.

Without expertise, it is very hard to avoid pitfalls and common mistakes that make you lose customers. But I spent 20+ years studying, so you don't have to!

We are a good fit if

You care about authenticity and respect. You want to make a positive impact in the world, however little.

You value quality over quantity. Even if it takes a bit more effort, you know full well it always pays off in the long run.

You want to embrace simplicity and focus on the essential. You are willing to let go of the superfluous, because your peace of mind is invaluable.

When I work hard, why is my life so hard? There must be something wrong, because I produce a lot of things, but I cannot get enough.

Services

Here's what we can do together:

Since no one size fits all, each of the above is fully customizable.

For instance, customized coaching and courses can be aimed at:

Pricing

Our first call is free of charge not only so we can get to know each other, but also for you to ask me anything and make sure I can actually help you.

A website usually costs 600 to 1800 euros. These are just ballpark figures: an exact quote is only possible after clarifying your specific needs and wants.

My hourly rate for a one-off consulting session is 120 euros. For coaching plans and any other custom services, we can make a deal via email or free call.

Simplicity delivers

If you think "simple" must mean "worse" – think again. A high-quality website doesn't have to be complex and costly (in terms of both time and money).

As an example, take this page: it is dead simple, it requires zero maintenance, and I spend a measly 10 euros per year – yes, per year – to keep it online.

And yet, it allows me to give you useful information before you even decide to reach out. Also, it outperforms the average website in many ways.

Let's get started

Whether you are a freelancer or a solopreneur, and even if you run a small business or a no-profit organization, a simple website might suit you perfectly.

Maybe there are some aspects of your web communication that you would like to clarify or simplify. Or maybe there is a specific problem you want to solve.

If you're ready to find out how to apply simplicity to your online presence, you can stop reading now. Just drop me a line, and we'll take it from there.

Simplicity is a great virtue but it requires hard work to achieve it and education to appreciate it. And to make matters worse: complexity sells better.
Edsger Wybe Dijkstra, On the nature of Computing Science (EWD896)

How I work

My advice is based on facts rather than opinions and supported by real-life cases of consistent results rather than empty words and arbitrary promises.

I use concrete examples, analogies, and metaphors to explain technical concepts in simple terms – so you fully grasp what your final decisions entail.

I like to give you several options and help you weigh their pros and cons objectively. I speak openly and tactfully. I never put pressure or judge.

We can be flexible

I will do my best to accommodate any special requests you may have, so please don't be afraid to ask. If that's at all feasible, we'll work it out.

We can define our own workflow: deadlines, means of communications, tools or platforms to use, and so on. Generally speaking, I adapt very easily.

Most of our work can be asynchronous. But if we need to schedule a call, I can make myself available both during and outside the usual working hours.

Also, note that our time zone may differ: see the time in Italy, where I am based.

A word on trust

Let's say you need some guidance and want to consult an expert. How can you be sure that a consultant will act in your best interest? Sometimes you just can't.

I address conflict of interest by relying on verifiable facts, being transparent about my sources, and breaking down the reasoning behind my advice.

If I don't think I can help you, I'll be upfront about it and save us both time. Unhappy customers make my life more difficult, and I don't want any of that.

Of course these are only words, and talk is cheap. But actions speak louder than words: I charge nothing for our first session, and I practice what I preach.

I could have made a much more complex, feature-rich website for myself. But I have simplified my needs. And that allows me to save time, money, and headache.

Also, one of the main reasons I offer the first session for free is just so you can get a sense for who I am and decide for yourself whether you should trust me or not.

Personal values

I do what I feel is right, even against my own interests. I am on a constant quest for balance between myself, others and the environment in which we live.

I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. I don't put profit above my integrity. I wish more people did that, but I can only lead by example.

In our consumerist society, where we are pushed to want more and buy more... I advocate for a more humane way to do business, with less greed and less stuff.

Our life is frittered away by detail. [...] Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand [...]
Henry David Thoreau, Walden (chapter 2: Where I Lived, and What I Lived For)

FAQ

How can I book a free call? And how does it work?

Just email me, briefly introduce yourself, and let me know if you already have a website. We'll arrange the details, and then I'll send you an invite link.

We will go over your online presence and discuss how to improve or simplify it. This session typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes, but I am flexible about that.

Powered by Jitsi Meet: a free, secure (open source and end-to-end encrypted), intuitive video conferencing tool. It works from any device, no account needed.

Why are all your prices in euros?

Because I am currently based in Italy and mostly work from there. But if paying in euros is a problem, we can find a way for you to pay in your local currency.

I am still in the process of evaluating options to make payments easier and cheaper for both of us. If you have anything to suggest, please let me know.

Meanwhile, let me clarify that I will take care of any transaction fees and tax burdens. No surprise charges for you!

Do I really need a website?

No, and whoever tells you otherwise has either a vested interest or a biased opinion. Actually, not having a website is even better than having a bad one!

That said, nowadays most people expect any legitimate business to have a web presence. If you don't, that may negatively affect your professional image.

Moreover, your website is the only place on the internet you can fully control. It can be an excellent business tool and provide outstanding value for money.

Can't I just use social media?

Sure you can, but it's a bit risky: you depend on companies that may change terms of service anytime and are at the whim of their unfathomable algorithms.

Also, social media profiles can be great to engage with people who already know you. But they're often chaotic as a starting point for new potential customers.

Your website may serve as your digital business card and portfolio, with concise information about you and a curated selection of your best works.
